The new year is bringing lots of new things and ideas… So stay tuned.
I have been using the Reality Plug-in by preta3d to learn how this great utility works. This plug-in which uses the luxrender engine to render the image is fantastic. It creates images that are more lifelike and have a truly realistic light quality to them.
I will continue to learn how to use this wonderful tool to create future scenes and again push creativity and realism to new levels. Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy this image.
This new year which is now almost two months old, for me is going to be a year of change. I am going to try and make “ART” this year, yep I said that I am going to try and make ART.
I have been posting my art on deviantART for 2 years, but now I want to really stretch myself and create “complete” art. I started posting fractal art (apophysis, and others), and then I started using Vue, and Daz Studio. I have even combined all three of these forms in many of my submissions to see what I could do with all of them. I use to just slap a scene together in a matter of minutes, tweak it, render it, and post it on dA. These usually only took me an hour or two to put together, and then wait anywhere from a few minutes to 12 hours for the scene to render. I learned a great deal about these programs and myself over the past two years by doing this. The biggest takeaway from this learning was I still don’t know nearly enough to accomplish all I want to create.
So gone are the days of trying to just create image after image after image. Now I will be taking art through steps or stages until I have what is in my mind the final image. I truly don’t believe that art is ever finished, but it does come to an endpoint.
I am going to be very patient this year until I find my endpoint, and not turn out art submissions like fast food. I also am going to invest more time learning from others via tutorials, or just asking for some help or advice. I am going to learn Hexagon this year and try my hand at modeling some things to use in my renders. I am going to reinvest some energy in to Vue and dig deeper in to what I can do with that wonderful program. I want to get back in to making fractals with apophysis and learn mandlebulb 3d as well, since it looks so very intriguing. I will be doing more website design work as well, which reminds me I need to give my website dglart.com a complete renovation…
I am also doing some commercial work this year by making logos and creating print art for those who are looking for something new. I can be contacted for this by using the contact me page. I will even create you an avatar if you need one…
For those of you who follow me and those of you who may follow me in the future, I hope you enjoy my journey this year and stick around for the ride. This is going to be a great year!!! Maybe this year you’ll find my work in a magazine somewhere, who knows…
I want to thank all of my friends everywhere for all of your kind words and support so…
Thank You!!! 🙂
The most special thank you goes to my wife… Heather, you have no idea how much you inspire me!!!
I have been working on these images for most of the last month. The idea for the images was simply a group of people outside of a bar in a dark alley somewhere in the city. After completing the first image I began working on the “After Hours” scene. This scene involves 3 of the characters hanging out in a loft apartment after a long night. I wanted the textures of the apartment to be soft yet bold in their appearance.
I have used numerous lights and other techniques to hopefully bring a sense of realism and believability to both of the images. As for how the story plays out that is entirely left to your imagination… These scenes unlike a majority of my past works took a very long time to complete, and I wanted to create the scene in a way that you could believe it to be real. Yes, I know that these are not my usual science fiction type scenes and are possibly a little hardcore for some. No, there is no nudity, but the characters are harder than I would usually do. I hope you enjoy these scenes and thank you for looking. I also want to thank “karibous-boutique” at deviantART for all of her help with the lighting techniques and the patience to teach me about them. Thank you!
I, like everybody else need a break from everything going on. One of the best ways for me to relax and spark my imagination is to read a great book. “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” series by Stieg Larsson did just that. Check out the NEWS page for a quick review of this trilogy. You can also see a quick little image I put together in tribute to these great books.
The poster version of “corridor” is now available at zazzle. You can find out more and see a preview in the News page

The latest image by dgl fractal art and design. I was inspired by the movie TRON and wanted to create something similar in style, but with my own imagination. The concept took 4 days to create with texturing and shaders for all the hard surfaces. The render took only 3 hours to complete and I was pleasantly suprised with the results. After the render completed I decided not to any postwork to the image and publish it as is. I will be making this in to a print and will be available soon at my zazzle store. Thanks for viewing and I hope you enjoy the image as much as I did in creating it.
This image was created using Daz Studio and Corel PSP for the borders.
